This week has been a busy one! It includes three dress rehearsals and six performances of our large Christmas event, plus all the normal activities. The show is the result of over a year of creation, design, and production, plus three months of rehearsals for over two hundred performers and crews. Plus, for me, it represents the opening of what is somewhere between 300 and 400 staged productions in the past 35 years. It may be just another opening, but it is just as special as every one that has come before it. I am proud of the team I have assembled and they are doing a wonderful job of rising to the challenge of the task. Bravo.
So, now that this one is open, I reset my leadership clock and begin to do what I always do and keep the next big thing in front of the team. Even though I want everyone to enjoy the success of this project and breathe a little, I also want them to keep moving forward. Momentum is a difficult thing to keep going, and I’ve found that if I keep the next project in front of my team, they will continue to stay excited and committed to the mission we share. By painting the picture of the future work for the team while they are still finishing up the current effort, I have found it easier to keep the momentum going. I have even reset the app on my phone for opening night of next year’s Christmas event. Some think I’m a bit over-driven! However, the team I lead is already excited about next year’s production, and all the activities between now and then. It works for me and it will work for you too.
Lead well.
