We’ve all experienced breaking down because some small part has failed. Recently my wife’s car continually needed to be jumped because the battery had a small, but constant unknown draw on it that drained its power. After months of effort by two mechanic shops, a ton of money invested, and a huge amount of frustration, we finally discovered that there was one very small switch in the driver’s seat mechanism that had been stuck in the “on” position. Once that very small part was replaced, the car returned to its state of reliability.
We all understand that leadership can be exhausting. There are times when, as much as we enjoy the thrill of accomplishing great things with great people, we feel, much like my wife’s car, that our batteries are being continually drained. So, the question to ask is if there is something in our life that is stuck in the on position? Is there some habit, hurt, or hang-up that is constantly draining us? It may be that with a little self-analysis, we can find the switch that is stuck and turn it off, so that we can return to our state of full power. It’s worth thinking about and I’ve been able to put away the jumper cables!
Lead well
