In a recent post I spoke of the importance of discovering one’s strengths in order to be the best leader they can be and ultimately the best version of themselves. In the results of my assessment, it is identified that one of my strengths is “futuristic,” which is described as one who continually asks, “Wouldn’t it be great if…?” and the type of person “who loves to peer over the horizon, because the future fascinates you.” That’s me! I’ve always been more interested in the future than the present. Sometimes that’s challenging, but most often it is awesome! A futuristic person is “A dreamer who sees visions of what could be and who cherishes those vision.” I’m guilty on all accounts.
Futurist, James Canton, states, “How do innovators think? They are open. They explore. They envision the future, have long-term forecasts, are not afraid of breaking rules, and are above all else, they are courageous, even in the face of failure, criticism, and disaster. They have the capacity to change fast, fail fast, and succeed fast. They are always looking for opportunity to embrace emerging innovations to create value.” Canton goes on to say, “We adapt or die” and echoes what many future-minded leaders have said over the years, “we will get the future we create.”
Are you a futuristic leader? Are you in the process of creating the future you desire for yourself and the people you lead? I encourage you to look forward and envision the possibilities that are within your grasp if you choose to step out in faith and peers over the horizon. That’s the leader I hope to be. I hope you will join me.
Lead well.
