In the interviews I am conducting regarding pastoral humility, I met an extraordinarily humble pastor. This is what Bishop Young Jin Cho said to me,
“Greatness of life is not in being served, but in serving. We are not in charge. Jesus is in charge. Ministry is not my ministry or our ministry, but Christ’s ministry. The Risen Christ is still alive and doing His ministry in us and among us through the Holy Spirit. Mission is not my mission or our mission. We are taking part in God’s mission. If we humbly open ourselves and seek and obey the will of our Lord, we will have a different future.”
In light of all the negative events going on in our world, it is assuring to know that there are still people who believe that the world doesn’t revolve around them. We can all learn from Bishop Cho. If we practice turning our focus on others instead of ourselves, we will serve in humility and give our people a chance to make our world a little better place.
Thank you Bishop Cho.
Lead well.
