Here’s another leadership style that you may find in a church pastor. Some church people love this, but others want someone more predictable. Read the description below and think about if the situational leadership type of pastor is best for you and your church.
In many ways, the situational leader is the best of all worlds for a church because of their ability to assess changing circumstances and adjust their methods according to changing needs. Too often strong pastors struggle to switch their practices to match needs and miss opportunities as they present themselves. The situational leader is agile, analytical, a strong decision-maker, and open. They react quickly to opportunities and challenges with confidence and a spirit of optimism. They believe that they can overcome whatever is thrown at them because they have a large toolbox of techniques from which to choose. The downside of a situational leader can be the perception that they flip flop on issues that lay leaders may think have been settled. Because this leader is willing to stay open to options, they may frustrate those who are ready to move in the particular direction decided upon.

IMPACT: When the humility factor is added to the leadership style of Situational, the humble pastor outcome is that the softer skills related to relationships will make this decisive leader more approachable. People will trust their leader’s judgment as a track record of success develops, and there will be an affirmative acceptance that the leader won’t use the same tactics for every circumstance.
