One of the writers I’ve been greatly influenced by is Graham Standish and I am using many of the concepts he wrote a decade ago as seeds of thought in the book I am writing, The Humility Factor. Here is one of the great thoughts he shared, “We are distinct and special not because of any qualities or abilities we ourselves possess. Our unique qualities are gifts from God that come from God’s Spirit breathed into us…nothing we do by our own power. The humble person sees their ability as a gift from God, not as evidence of personal greatness.”
Wow! That will sure put us in our place when we start to think that we’re responsible for the talents and gifts we have. We must always remember that we didn’t create ourselves and that the old-school “self-made man (or woman)” is at best a myth, or at worst, a recipe for an ego out of control. We must remember that God is great and we are not, but God can do great things through us if we let Him do so.
Stay humble and lead well.
