Reformation

Happy Reformation Day!

I would venture to say that only a fraction of the population knows what happened on October 31st in 1517, and even fewer stop to ponder or celebrate it.  But for leaders, this day is significant because it shows how one person can change the course of human history if they are committed and courageous enough to speak up for what they believe needs attention.  On this day in 1517 Martin Luther made his views known about the things which he believed were problems in the church.  While he didn’t set out to be revolutionary, (his intention was to bring about positive change within), by posting his 95 treatises on the door of the church he served, he set in motion the reformation and birthed the protestant church.

What can leaders today learn from Martin Luther?  Here are just a few things to remember:

  • One person really can change the world, a country, or an organization.
  • A movement begins by someone speaking up.
  • It takes conviction and courage to really make a difference.
  • Leadership belongs to the person who decides to do something.

The great news is that we all can follow Martin Luther’s example.  We can change the world and we probably won’t have to endure the same level of distress he faced for his bravery.

On this anniversary of Reformation Day, what do you see that needs to be reformed?

Lead well.
